There are a whole range of web issues to deal with when creating a web site - here are some of them (these will be changed regularly):

Keeping content up-to-date

Having old, non-current information on your site means that when people visit your site, they will immediately disregard it, as being old, irrelevant, and one which they most likely wont visit again.

Regularly updated content shows your visitors that the site is dynamic, active and actually doing business. These are important factors to attacting and keeping visitors on your site.

Keeping content up-to-date and relevant is essential for you to do every day (or at least weekly). You could even have information on the site that lets users know whent the site was last updated. This lets users know that the site is an active one and encourages them to come back.

Repeat visitors will notice if your website changes and with any luck will bookmark your site for future reference.

Web security

E-commerce sites commonly have security flaws. The top seven flaws discovered were, in descending order of severity:

  • Lack of security behind the 'front door' exposes 'root' access Web server flaws
  • Logout facility not working - even though the web site tells users they have logged out, they are still logged in, so anyone using the PC directly afterwards can continue the session with full access to their account
  • Web server allows unencrypted access to secure areas: this allows information to be sent in the clear across the Internet - and sniffed in transit
  • Authentication fields are not obscured during entry: so people looking over a victim's shoulder can see access details
  • Account lockout mechanism does not work: leaving data unprotected from malicious 'brute force' attacks
  • No protection against keystroke loggers: this allows an attacker to log confidential information entered by the user
  • Weak password mechanisms: system allows users to choose insecure passwords, or there is no facility to change password

Web navigation and usability

missiveMEDIA place usability at the centre of its design approach. When people use your website, they shouldnt have to think about how to navigate through it, it should be intuitive and simple to find things in it. With your competition just a click away it is vital that you don't put obstacles in their way, to the heart of the information on your site.
